Kerolos was 19 years old when we took this selfie. His father passed away when he was a child and it was up to him to provide for his mom and 14 year old sister.
Kerolos lived in Ismailia, Egypt in a humble neighborhood. No internet or iPhones. No car. Just basic necessities.
Kerolos had cerebral palsy that caused difficulty to walk or work, so he rode a tricycle with a large basket to deliver goods.
When we visited him in 2020 he had fallen and injured his hip and couldn’t work for that time being.
It broke my heart to learn that Kerolos became sick in 2021 and passed away later that year.
I didn’t know that he had passed until recently when we went back to visit this January.
This post is to honor this young man who didn’t have much but had a big heart and a great smile.
You bring “fought the good fight” to whole new level, my friend.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day —and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” (2Tim 4:7-8)
