Hello prayers: Here are the latest developments I have just heard from our partner in Mauritania. Please pray for Brother Abdu. Last week he was moved a the large regional prison near Rosso. Today, his trial began. Abdu is charged with apostasy and heresy, both of which are punishable by death.
There are three possibilities for the outcome:
1) The judge could dismiss the charges.
2) The judge could sentence Abdu with execution which could happen within 24 hours of the sentence.
3) The judge could put all the procedings on hold for an indifinite period of time.
3) Abdu could be released if the right kind of pressure is put on the government.
There are three possible ways we could exert pressure on the Mauritanian government:
1) Identify people with diplomatic relations that can communicate with government figures or the Mauritanian
embassies in several countries and pressure them to release Abdu.
2) Overwhelm the Mauritanian Embassies with letters.
3) Secure a top secular attorney with experience in the highest courts; this would be very expensive
Please pray for our Brother Abdu. Pray, also, specifically:
1) For Isa, Abdu’s son, who is undoubtedly suffering tremendous feelings of fear, guilt and emotional
anguish. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s reassurance and encouragement.
2) For Abdu’s family; that the Lord gives them peace and comfort through this ordeal.
3) That the right attorney will take up the case.
4) That the costs will be covered.
5) For peace and wisdom for the Believers in Mauritania, especially in Abdu’s church.
Thank you for your prayers and whatever else you may be able to do to help.

Dear Prayer Partners,
I must update you about our friends in Mauritania. Our brother there, Abd elrahman kane, and his son Isa, who is 21 years old, have just been arrested by the Mauritanian police in the city of Rosso. The story began on April 10 when Isa decided to smuggle 152 Bibles and Christian booklets in the Fulani language from Senegal into Mauritania. Immigration officials searched his bags and arrested him for carrying “illegal, infidel materials” into an Islamic country. The church leaders advised his father to go into hiding when they heard his son had been arrested. They hoped the incident would die down and the young man would be released. The police allowed Isa to stay in his home overnight and return to the police station each day. He could not escape without endangering his family.
Finally, on April 20, Abd elrahman decided he had to go to the police station to ask the officers to release his son. He told them he would take the responsibility and consequences for his son’s actions. The chief officer said he would gladly release them both if they would simply renounce their faith in Jesus and confirm that they are devout Muslims who were just bringing the Bibles and materials to share with their friends out of idle curiosity. Abd elrahman and Isa both refused to deny Jesus and their Christian faith. The officer replied, “You have just put yourself in major trouble. I wanted to release you, but you have to denounce Jesus. If you won’t do that, I have no choice but to take you both into custody and charge you with:
1) converting from Islam to Christianity, which is punishable by execution
2) attempting to bring infidel books into an Islamic country
3) attempting to propagate infidel ideas among Islamic people
Both men are now being held in the Rosso City police station jail awaiting trial.
Dear friends, please pray fervently
1) that God will use this case to push the government to change their laws, allowing their citizens to freely become Christians.
2) that Americans will no longer believe the lie that Islam is tolerant of other religions
3) for Abd elrahman and Isa’s family and church. That God will give them peace, wisdom, and boldness
4) that God will provide us with a good secular lawyer to advocate for them. That he is not a radical Muslim himself

Blessings to you in Christ,

Kerolos was 19 years old when we took this selfie. His father passed away when he was a child and it was up to him to provide for his mom and 14 year old sister.
Kerolos lived in Ismailia, Egypt in a humble neighborhood. No internet or iPhones. No car. Just basic necessities.
Kerolos had cerebral palsy that caused difficulty to walk or work, so he rode a tricycle with a large basket to deliver goods.
When we visited him in 2020 he had fallen and injured his hip and couldn’t work for that time being.
It broke my heart to learn that Kerolos became sick in 2021 and passed away later that year.
I didn’t know that he had passed until recently when we went back to visit this January.
This post is to honor this young man who didn’t have much but had a big heart and a great smile.
You bring “fought the good fight” to whole new level, my friend.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day —and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” (2Tim 4:7-8)

As of this afternoon, all five of the Christian leaders have been released! A couple of them have been taken to the hospital to be treated for dehydration, severe anemia and exhaustion from the torture.
Many, many thanks for your prayers, sending letters and advocating on their behalf. Please continue to lift up these believers as they work through recovery and for their families. We’re praising God that they can be reunited!
Thank you so much for your prayers and support!
