Hello prayers: Here are the latest developments I have just heard from our partner in Mauritania. Please pray for Brother Abdu. Last week he was moved a the large regional prison near Rosso. Today, his trial began. Abdu is charged with apostasy and heresy, both of which are punishable by death.
There are three possibilities for the outcome:
1) The judge could dismiss the charges.
2) The judge could sentence Abdu with execution which could happen within 24 hours of the sentence.
3) The judge could put all the procedings on hold for an indifinite period of time.
3) Abdu could be released if the right kind of pressure is put on the government.
There are three possible ways we could exert pressure on the Mauritanian government:
1) Identify people with diplomatic relations that can communicate with government figures or the Mauritanian
embassies in several countries and pressure them to release Abdu.
2) Overwhelm the Mauritanian Embassies with letters.
3) Secure a top secular attorney with experience in the highest courts; this would be very expensive
Please pray for our Brother Abdu. Pray, also, specifically:
1) For Isa, Abdu’s son, who is undoubtedly suffering tremendous feelings of fear, guilt and emotional
anguish. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s reassurance and encouragement.
2) For Abdu’s family; that the Lord gives them peace and comfort through this ordeal.
3) That the right attorney will take up the case.
4) That the costs will be covered.
5) For peace and wisdom for the Believers in Mauritania, especially in Abdu’s church.
